In this article, I share practical Halloween front porch ideas. If you want to decorate for Halloween but don’t want the outdoor space to feel scary, opt for “friendly-spooky” decor items like cheerful ghosts, bats, sparrows, Harry Potter-style magic, or witches that aren’t frightening.
Personally, I don’t enjoy scarily decorating my porch. I want neighbors with small children to walk by and not have to cover their eyes. I jokingly say to my family that I decorate “PG Halloween,” but I am all for spooky bats, friendly ghosts, or faux spiders.

Next to my front door, I added mums, heirloom pumpkins stacked like a topiary on top of a rustic white planter (I share how to make a pumpkin topiary in this video!), and a reversible oversized “Boo” sign from Aldi.
The red leaf wreath, Hello Fall doormat, and striped rug were purchased from Target. I layered the doormat over the striped rug to fill the space a bit more. And I like that the wreath is neutral enough in style that it can be used for Thanksgiving, too.

I have a cute spot on the left side of my porch with blue wooden Adirondack chairs. To make it more cozy and festive I purchased two sparrow pillow covers and pillow inserts from Amazon (I made a review video of the pillows here). And I found the cute metal chrome spider bowl at Homegoods!

I also added a cute Halloween dog flag that is customizable by breed from Amazon. I think the witch hat on the dog is super cute and the quality of the flag is good. I even did a video review of the flag here!

All in all, I’m really happy with our Halloween front porch decor this year! If you want to decorate for Halloween in a non-scary way, I would avoid using skeletons, zombies, scary witches, and anything with fake blood.
Adding friendly and cute Halloween flags, pillows, wreaths, signs, and pumpkins will help a porch feel more festive.
We will likely add a few more items to the yard as it gets closer to Halloween (we have a witch and a large spider web that goes in the bushes). Do you decorate outside for Halloween?
