I am thrilled to share this raised garden planter with you! It is an IKEA hack using a combination of quality cedar wood and IKEA trestle legs. It was a fun afternoon project and we LOVE having fresh herbs right off the back patio! Elevated garden beds are great solutions for people who want a garden but don’t have a large backyard, or who can’t bend over to care for a garden. Its also very useful for keeping pets out of the garden!

My husband built the cedar box in a few hours and we decided to lay it over IKEA trestle legs we already owned. We are able to fit a few favorite herbs, peppers, and strawberries in at a time. And could always build a second cedar box if we need more space.

For the full step-by-step tutorial with free printable, read the article I wrote for eHow: How to Build a Standing Planter Box for a Patio.

Update: We built this 3 years ago in 2016 and as of early 2019 the elevated cedar planter still looks beautiful in our backyard!
