When I moved to the Charlotte, NC area 4 years ago I heard about the High Point Market but was clueless about it. So I started doing my research!
The High Point Market is a furniture trade show (the largest in the world!) hosted in High Point, NC every 6 months with over 2000 exhibitors. It is open to people in the industry only. The majority of the exhibitors I visited were wholesalers–shops & boutiques buy from them to sell in their stores.
I attended the past two markets with a press pass with my friend Ursula of Home Made by Carmona.
Scroll down for 4 trends I spotted at the April 2018 High Point Market. This isn’t a conclusive list! You will find every style at the Market. I’m sharing my favorite things that caught my eye as a designer who leans toward modern lines with rustic accents. And a bonus if a piece has some quirkiness!
1. Wall Treatments
Wall treatments weren’t the point of the show. However, I found myself drawn to how exhibits were styled. I saw everything from wallpaper to board & batten and a modern take on shiplap. I think shiplap has had its moment but the black feels fresh & modern, and I like it! Image below taken at: Cooper Classics

I love lighting SOO much, so many styles to pick from. Here are a few pendants that caught my eye. Image below taken at: Dovetail Furniture

3. Ocean Inspired
I spotted several nautical-style pieces that were subtle abstract and really creative. I was crazy for the seashell vase and oyster wreath. And saw an oyster mirror at the show too. Image below taken at: Uma

The sea blue seats were surprisingly cushioned and comfortable. I love it when form & function work well together. Furniture pieces should have great style AND be comfortable, too. Image below taken at: Artesia

4. Accessories
This is a general “catch-all” category but I want to share with you a few favorite small pieces from the show. I liked the style of the stacked leather boxes. The oversized wood candles would be AMAZING in an outdoor space. And I liked the rectangle size of the pouf at Selmat’s exhibit. Image below taken at: Uma

I spotted so many fun pieces at the High Point Market and can’t wait to head back in the Fall. Did you spot a favorite piece or decor trend?
