I have owned my propane firepit for almost 2 years and I still love it! But over time the paint started chipping on the top. So I decided to repair it. This article shares how to repair and restore a fire pit using high-heat paint.
My theory is the black cover I was using made it hot and more susceptible to chipping. So I’ve since switched to a light cream cover.
This was a quick DIY repair and I’m happy with the result! Since the peeling was only on the top, I color-matched the brown as best I could and didn’t paint the base. Scroll down for directions on how to paint and restore your fire pit.
Restore a Fire Pit in 4 Steps
1. Sand the fire pit
Cover the ground with a tarp or old sheet. And cover anything else you don’t want to get dirty or painted. Lightly sand down the surface you need to paint.
2. Wipe off the firepit surface with a towel (will not look pretty!)
3. Spray paint the surface with high-heat primer
I spray-painted my fire pit with an automotive engine enamel primer. Follow the directions on the paint, and lightly coat until the surface is covered.
I bought my primer at a local automotive store. But this is a similar product.
4. Spray paint fire Pit
Once the primer is dry, spray paint with a high heat paint. I used a brown high-heat paint that matched the faux stone base. Repeat until the surface is covered.
I’m thrilled with how my firepit turned out! It just took sandpaper, high-heat primer, and high-heat spray paint and it looks fresh and new. It’s an easy weekend DIY repair project.
