Matcha with peach preserves recipe

Learn how to make a cold whisked matcha with peach preserves and matcha powder. This dairy-free cold drink is refreshing and lightly sweet, perfect for summer!

I drink a cup of coffee in the morning, and in the past, when I needed a pick-me-up in the afternoon, I drank chai tea. But lately I’ve ordered an iced matcha. I’ve watched baristas make matcha, and was intrigued to start making it for myself.

I watched a lot of TikTok videos on what type of matcha to order. In this recipe I used HAYASHIYA Wakamatsu Matcha Powder, and I also tried making a few with Naoki Matcha. It’s important to use a good quality matcha powder to get the beautiful green color and flavor. I’ve also heard Whole Foods sells a good matcha powder and plan to try it soon.

I also ordered a matcha whisk kit that came with a bowl, bamboo whisk (chasen), sifter, and matcha spoon. I highly recommend it!

How to Make Cold-Whisked Matcha with Peach Preserves

  1. Blend matcha powder through strainer into bowl. I like being able to taste the matcha, so I usually do 3 “scoops” from the wooden matcha spoon. This is roughly 2-3 grams of matcha.

2. Add 1/4 oat milk to the powder and whisk with a bamboo whisk for a few minutes until bubbly and smooth. Set aside.

3. Add 1.5 tablespoons of peach preserves to the bottom of the glass. Pour in ice. If you want the drink to be sweeter, you can add 2 tablespoons instead of 1.5.

4. Add 1 cup of oat milk over ice and peach preserves, then pour matcha liquid over oat milk.

Stir with a straw or spoon to blend peach preserves into the drink. Drink the peach matcha while cold!

Frequently Asked Questions about Matcha

What is matcha?

Matcha is powdered green tea, the tea leaves are finely ground. It is typically imported from Japan. Higher-quality ceremonial grade matcha will often have a bright green color and umami flavor.

Are there any health benefits?

Matcha is high in antioxidants and can help with heart health, brain function, and weight management. Because matcha can interfere with iron absorption, it is generally recommended to limit intake to 1-2 cups a day.

Why cold whisk instead of hot?

Traditionally, matcha powder is mixed into hot water. However, when I learned about the cold-whisking method I decided to try that. You still whisk matcha powder with water or milk, but its faster (with no need to prep the temperature).

How does the caffeine in matcha compare to a coffee?

Depending on how much matcha powder you use, matcha generally has much less caffeine than a cup of coffee. Matcha on average, has around 30mg of caffeine per 1 gram. I make my matcha with 2-3 grams of matcha powder (60-90mg of caffeine). A cup of coffee contains 100-140mg.

Anecdotally, I find the caffeine in matcha is smoother and doesn’t give me anxiety spikes the way coffee does.
